I'm pretty sure that your beloved and respected colleague Manny is taking a well-deserved break from the forums for a few days. Such is the peril of those who speak "truth" to "power", especially when said "truth" is spamming one word over and over and over again. That works for Buddhists meditating "facing the wall", or for the terrible posters on terrible fan sites with names that must not be mentioned.
What works for EVE Online forums is posters who talk about the game and their interactions with other players in a civil manner. What works on your other forum is certainly not civil: your "good posts" are the equivalent of a drunk teenager mooning passing traffic on the highway in the middle of the night. That is to say, of no value other than the vulgar entertainment of the people constituting the "in crowd".
Leaving the site that must not be named as a forbidden secret of the EVE Universe has worked better for that sites popularity than any other spruiking.

No. This is no place for civility. You might want to try another game.
That you are incapable of distinguishing between forums and the game is a saddening tale indeed. There is also a difference between civil and civic minded, just as there is a gaping chasm in meaning between polite and altruistic.
You can be polite and civil towards people on the forums, while simultaneously being malicious and manipulative. Just keep the words acceptable in public, and don't go discussing exploits. Lawful Evil is still Lawful.
In the meantime, the popularity of your favourite site is maintained by it being a "in crowd" and the very name of the site being taboo. Why are you so hell-bent on destroying the reputation which makes your site so attractive to the crowd you want to attract?

The standard of posting on that site is so high, they have to have a guide to tell people to not use 4chan images, not use pass+¬ Internet memes, and remind people that it helps to actually read a post before responding. The posts of a quality that I would consider "good" or "useful" are written by a small handful of posters, most of them simply reposting CCP devblogs or EVE Online Forum posts, with an attached tail of dozens of "oh man, didn't see that coming from a mile away" responses, along with the usual trash from people like this:

Manny of course being the guy spamming the EVE Online forums with useless posts over the weekend, and this thread not being unique in its level of intellectual engagement and subject matter.
Yup. Nothing but quality posts over there. People who want it will find it. Leaving it censored adds to the mystique and allows children to pretend to be "bad boys", in the same way that riding a Harley Davidson lets them pretend to be a PTSD-suffering Vietnam Veteran.
Though I must compliment Mittens and Vinata on being intellectual giants in a sea of incompetents. |
